Aryan Sarsam is an illustrator and painter based in Iraq. She has taken part in artistic activities and exhibitions since childhood, and held her own exhibition while still in the third grade of secondary school.
She graduated from Salahaddin University, College of Education, in 1996. That same year she joined Hang magazine as an illustrator and continued with the magazine until its hundredth issue.
Her drawings have been published by UNICEF, the World Food Programme, MEDS, Save the Children, Aras Publishing House, the Ministry of Health and the Kurdistan Child Protection Agency. For the Ministry of Education she illustrated the complete first, second and third grade books in Kurdish, science, mathematics, art and physical education, along with both kindergarten levels.
She currently works at the General Directorate of Curriculum & Printing, and is fluent in Kurdish, Arabic and English.
Every school book a child opens is somebody's drawing. I want that drawing to look like the world the child actually lives in.
